Synopsis:

Star D'Apliese is at a crossroads in her life after the sudden death of her beloved father - the elusive billionaire, named Pa Salt by his six daughters, all adopted by him from the four corners of the world. He has left each of them a clue to their true heritage, but Star - the most enigmatic of the sisters - is hesitant to step out of the safety of the close relationship she shares with her sister Cece. in desperation, she decides to follow the first clue she has been left, which leads her to an antiquarian bookshop in London, and the start of a whole new world...

A hundred years earlier, headstrong and independent Flora MacNichol vows she will never marry. She is happy and secure in her home in the Lake District, living close to her idol, Beatrix Potter, when machinations outside her control lead her to London, and the home of one of Edwardian society's most notorious players, Alice Keppel. Flora is pulled between passionate love and duty to her family, but finds herself a pawn in a game - the rules of which are only known to others - until a meeting with a mysterious gentleman unveils the answers that Flora has been searching for her whole life.

As Star learns more of Flora's incredible journey, she too goes on a voyage of discovery, finally stepping out of the shadow of her sister and opening herself up to the possibility of love.

The Shadow Sister is the third book in Lucinda Riley's spellbinding series, loosely based on the mythology of the Seven Sisters star cluster.

I felt the most connected to Star's story for the following reasons:

a) Born in the UK and have travelled all over it on various holidays so I could imagine the landscape and weather better in this book than in the others.

b) Also, Star is more of an introvert as am I but there is always more to an introvert than meets the eye, you just need the right people around you to bring it out.

I look forward to continuing the series, just wish each book was shorter. Note to self: offer up smaller books for spirals in future.

This has arrived in Switzerland, but due to work which piled up during my recent absence, this may have to enjoy the Alps for a few weeks, along with another ring or two which are visiting just now. I hope to get to it soon, and I know the books in this series are generally quick reads once picked up. Thanks so much for making this series available.

This is the third in the Seven sisters series which has been coming to me as a bookcrossing spiral. While I initially almost groaned when Flora's diary began, I ended up getting successfully caught up in both stories - Flora's and Star's - and enjoying them very much. I'm not too sure why my reaction was to groan - I think I just was getting weary of the format - one of the sisters, in search of her origins, finding a journal or other writings which allow her to solve the mystery. Of course, I can't imagine how else that could happen, but for some reason it grated a bit at first.
I savored the British setting, admired Star's proficiency in the kitchen and was delighted to revisit what I knew of the Bloomsbury crew and Vita and Violet's various adventures (I highly recommend Nigel Nicolson's Portrait of a Marriage, which I read thirty years ago or so and still remember fairly well). Now my only regret is that the next in line is not here, so I must be patient. I have the next address and will try to get this out soon - possibly sent from France.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

This spiral has rolled from Switzerland to France by car and now heads off via the French postal services to the UK. Thanks so much for making these available - now I'm anxiously awaiting the next (sort of - loads of work on the agenda, so the anxiousness is relative). Enjoy and all the best for a happy, healthy and peaceful holiday season, revving up!

This time we get into the mysterious life and times of the silent enigma who is Star. It is a really interesting journey, with Star trying to break free from CeCe and find her self. Along the way, of course she finds out where she came from. The pages flew by. There was much more historical than future in this one. Also I was struggling to spot Pa Salt back in the day. I felt his presence much stronger in the previous two. But he was much more present in this one after he ‘died’. Really can’t wait to see what CeCe finds out about herself. She got a bit of a raw deal out of Star moving on. There were some very fascinating and random characters in this - mainly the modern sections. I just love the clever way Ms Riley squeezes her fictional characters in to real historical situations. It makes for such interesting reading! Bring on the fourth instalment I type!
