I've been following this very quirky and surreal series for some time. This volume picks up after Volume 5.

There do seem to be some advances in the story - the sinister witch makes more appearances, we get strong hints as to the origins of the curse, a peek at Kuro and Sensei before they were cursed (so sweet!), and a chilling look at the direction things might take, when the witch discovers the unusual purity and resilience of Nijuku and Sanju.

But before that there's a little side trip, a ghost story with more than one haunting - a lovely little tale. And a nastier story with some nightmarish visions - the artwork here can switch from adorable to horrifying in a moment.

There's an author's note suggesting that the next volume will be the last, and while I'll be sorry not to have more adventures with Kuro and friends, I hope the conclusion will be a happy one after all the trials they've been through.
