I read the book a month ago and loved it. I think I've been in same kind of situation, losing mother makes most of us feeling lost. And when your lost you need to do something huge to find your way back - mine was starting my studies for a new career, taking a study leave, moving houses and getting rid of heaps of unnecessary stuff in my home. So I think I understood her reasons and the journey she made inside herself. And I must say it was quite interesting and inspiring to read the trekking part, I dream about doing some trekking (in way shorter trips!) myself.

I've also seen the movie this year. The book is also mentioned in Netflix series "Gilmore Girls - A Year in Life". As I don't want to spoil the series I'll just answer "Book." ;)

I bought the book used and I just love that on the title page there's a little note from mother to her daughter on Christmas 2014. It really fits with the book.

I think this is one of the best books I've read in 2017, so this one will travel around the world as my part of Favourite Book of 2017 Book Roundabout. I hope you'll all enjoy the book as much as I did. And haven't read it already. :)

Arrived safely, thanks! And thank you for the card and the sweets - what a lovely surprise! The envelop was starting to tear, but it made it, just! This book sounds interesting!

I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the story about the trek itself. The back story I found less interesting, but obviously there has to be a back story and it has a place in the book. I have difficulty understanding her lack of preparation, and the fact that the message she seems to be conveying is 'I was not sufficiently prepared, and I did some really stupid things that could have cost me my life, but hey, it all turned out in the end.' But at the same time I greatly admire her perserverance and I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to do it.

So all in all I quite enjoyed it - thanks for sharing!

Fifna passed this book to me during a bookcrosser meetup last sunday. I already read this book quite recently so I won't read it again now. I enjoyed the book, thought it was interesting to see how Cheryl Strayed learned from her experiences on the trail. But overall I didn't find the book very memorable.

I know that you mustn't judge a book by its cover but for me the movie-cover was a repellent.
Finally I begun the book, I liked the first chapters. I lost my mother to cancer at the same age and very fast too. Melanoma was largely unknown in the 70's.
I lost it after her mother's death. Everybody copes as they can, I understand that.
I liked the idea of the trek, a lot. But...I absolutely can't believe possible to do it with a rucksack this weigh, when the author could't even lift it from the floor in the motel.
I continued a bit more but I'm sorry to say that I don't trust this to be true.
