From the back cover:
"Cakes and Ale is both a wickedly satirical novel about contemporary literature poseurs and a skillfully crafted study of freedom. As he traces the fortunes of Edward Driffield and his extraordinary wife Rosie, one of the most delightful heroines of twentieth-century literature, Maugham's sardonic wit and lyrical warmth expertly combine in this accomplished and unforgettable novel."
I liked Maugham's style of writing . It is said that most of the characters are based on real people; and Maugham was quite ruthless when describing some of the people. Especially I liked the ending of the book, it gave a nice and unexpected twist to the story.
