Enjoyed this intriguing tale that kept me engaged till the end. The beginning was a little slow, but after the initial build up, the chill crept in and I was rewarded by a nicely haunting tale told by an unreliable narrator.
Reserved for One Book a Month for Jan 2020.

Too lazy to go upstairs to check my bookshelf I took this book which was at hands and I couldn't put it down.
Spine-chilling and upsetting. I'm still wondering...
So glad to have won it.
I offer it as my March offer to give a new chance to the other entrants and the new ones as well. :)
To be sent to tigergirlnz in N.Z. as soon as possible.

Ever a fan of the Unreliable Narrator, I loved how well this book was written. Heck, as a writer myself I can see how much work must have gone into this.
Was it enjoyable? No, and it isn't meant to be. Disturbing, yep, I can't stop thinking about it.
Am I being careful not to drop spoilers? You bet I am.
YOU HAVE TO READ THIS, I just hope it doesn't trigger any memories that might be hiding away in your own brain.
I've read 5 of the novels/works that influenced the writer, have a couple already waiting on my own Mt TBR, and was the seller of one of them in the campus book store I used to work for. I feel as if the author and I could be friends because we studied the same novels at school and university. I studied 'The Bell Jar' (poor Sylvia Plath, oh if only we could have saved her), and 'The Handmaid's Tale' (Margaret Atwood is ever my writing role model). And how is this for freaky: I read 'Rebecca' by du Maurier just before reading 'How to be a good wife'!!!

Received from Tigergirlnz at an informal meetup, thank you.
Marta is married to Hector and she has always tried to be a good wife. Hector rescued her, saved her life and she has always been grateful to him, but her life feels empty now now their son Kylan has left home and it is just the two of them. She has stopped taking her medication and she is seeing this little blonde girl, she is trying to tell her something. She starts remembering things before her life with Hector, she wants to get away from him. A quick easy read, but disturbing and scary.
