I came across this somewhat-battered hardcover among the charity-sale books at a local Hannaford's, and nabbed it for another release copy. [They sell donated books for a dollar or less, with the proceeds going to various charities.]
This is the first of Yarbro's ongoing series of historical fiction about heroic vampire Count Saint-Germain; I must have read it soon after it came out, and have followed the series ever since. This one's set in Paris of the 1700's, and introduces Madelaine de Montalia, who will have a significant role to play in Saint-Germain's long life.
The story also features some exceedingly nasty villains, including a coven of devil-worshippers; but, as always, the historical details are practically a character in themselves.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I plan to leave this book on a bench or window ledge on Newbury Street, probably somewhere near Newbury and Clarendon, on my way to the NE Historic Genealogical Society for a talk. Hope the finder enjoys the book!
