I bought this but was confused about the genre based on the cover information - history? novel? journal? Turns out it's sort of a mix of both but with a heady dash of flamboyant journalism. Despite the fact he won a Pulitzer for his previous endeavour it sort of feels like John Berendt visted Venice to kick over some rocks and look for a bit of scandal... or at least to rock a gondola or two. It' s an interesting read but I think it's pretty niche and would only really appeal if you know anything about Venice or the Save Venice foundation.

Left on the bookshelf at Penge East station for a new commuter to find. Hope this book offers you some escapism en route to work!
