This book wasn’t at all what I expected. On one hand, I was impressed and pleased by the fact that these were not typical saccharine, sentimental Christmas stories. However, I was also a bit baffled by the inclusion of some of them- like ‘The Coming of the Christ-Child’ and ‘For Christmas’, both of which have titles suggestive of Christmas themes, and otherwise have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Christmas.

Overall, an ok collection. I particularly liked the pieces by Alistair MacLeod and by Vladimir Nabokov.
