Got this good-condition softcover at a local thrift shop. It's a fascinating, creepy, and sometimes poignant look at a school for boys, from the viewpoints of one senior teacher and one young woman with a major grudge. The alternating viewpoints work well here, and the escalating set of crimes set against a highly traditional academics-and-boarding-school plot make for lots of tension. The villain is quite heinous, yet is depicted in a super-competent way that's oddly appealing - but Classics teacher Straitley has some resources of his own, and while the final conflict seems one-sided it doesn't turn out that way. Interesting mix of affection-for-good-teachers and complex-criminal-plot!
