Picked up today at our meetup/book swap. Robertson Davies is one of John Irving's favourite authors, and my favourite Canadian novel is Davies' "Fifth Business", published in 1970. (OK....I have to admit....it's tied with "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry.) "A Merry Heart" was published in 1998, three years after Robertson Davies' death. It was put together by Douglas Gibson, Davies' wife Brenda and daughter Jennifer and is "a wide-ranging collection that lovingly gathers (Davies') reflections on books and reading, on his own writing and on other authors". From the back cover: "...the white-bearded magus of the north, Davies was a storyteller much preoccupied with the idea of life as a many-faceted mystery" - The New York Times. "A masterpiece that serves in remembrance of an accomplished voice that has been silenced. " - Edmonton Sun
