I got this good-condition hardcover from a friend who's decluttering. (This edition has a map of Beleriand attached to one of the rear flyleaves.) This book includes the history and legends of Middle Earth from its creation to the end of the Third Age, as described in Lord of the Rings. While I enjoyed some of the stories here, especially those that featured characters from Lord of the Rings (mainly the senior elves and some of the maiar), I didn't love it as much; still, it shows the depth of the fantasy world that Tolkien crafted.
