From the bookshelves at Harbord House Pub, and from the back cover: "...a classic British whodunit, reminiscent of the Golden Age. Napier depicts the bitter political rivalry of academia, and writes with dry wit and crisp dialogue." - Author Cath Staincliffe

This is a British police procedural, and the first in a series (of 2 so far). The similarities to Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks series are many; character, setting, types of case - I won't get more specific than that so it's not ruined for the next reader.

I did enjoy it, but I couldn't help feeling that this novel is a knock-off of a series that is already so well done - and well loved (by many!).

Napier's Colin McDermott is an Inspector with a case tied to his university, he also has a family life and a rich personal life that add to his stresses.

The mystery itself is well done and engaging and the characters are both believable and likeable.
