Mark Twain's writing is still funny and wise after all these years. He had a very solid understanding of human nature.

I read Tom Sawyer as a kid and liked it, so it was fun to read that again.

When I attempted to read Huckleberry Finn back then, I struggled with the way Twain wrote the accents/dialects. When trying again with this book I hit upon a solution- I put a copy on my Kindle and used text-to-speech to have the Kindle read it aloud to me- MUCH easier to understand! (And it made me realize what a brilliant job Twain did of rendering the accents phonetically- when the computer sounds them out, the accents sound just right and are easy to understand.) I followed along in this book because the illustrations for this particular story are terrific. They are line drawings that remind me of those in so many of the great books I read as a kid.

I had not read A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court before, and I liked most of it. I thought the protagonist occasionally got a bit too zealous with his cultural imperialism- it's all well to improve 5th-century Britain by working to abolish slavery, introduce education and newspapers, etc. but I didn't think it was necessary for him to impose upon them the horrors of baseball and firearms (especially since he used the firearms to kill so many of their knights). It was a good story but I got a bit annoyed with the guy sometimes.

The Prince and The Pauper and the short stories were enjoyable.
