This book was also published under the title Madame Maigret's Friend. This alternative title is probably better, as Madame Maigret actually plays a very small role in the story, and it's Maigret himself who is at the centre of the investigation. An anonymous tip leads Maigret to find human remains in the furnace of a bookbinder, while Madame Maigret has an abandoned boy temporarily and unexpectedly placed in her care. This is my first Simenon mystery and I expect it won't be my last. I found it quite entertaining and I liked the Paris setting.
