So looking forward to reading this New Zealand author. Caught today at The Nook, Federation Square, Melbourne, Australia. This little book commenced its journey in New Zealand a couple of weeks ago, is has travelled a long way in a short time. On to Mt TBR it goes.
I feel almost embarrassed to admit this is my first experience with New Zealand author Janet Frame, not my last though...
This is the second volume in her autobiographical trilogy, it covers around ten years in the 1940s between the time she leaves school and sets off for London.
As a result of having been mistakenly diagnosed with schizophrenia Frame was tragically institutionalized. Her descriptions of her experiences during this time make for both horrifying and compelling reading.
Her writing is beautiful, complex and unique.
Recommended reading.
