Journal Entry 1 by JessicaEby from Cambridge, Ontario Canada on Monday, November 13, 2017
I bought this book last year at a local charity shop here in Cambridge, Ontario. I can see that it once belonged to Canadian Martyrs School in Burlington, so it's travelled about 50km so far. This book was written when I was a baby and it's a pretty well-known Canadian children's book, having won the Canadian Library Association's "Book of the Year for Children" Award, but it's one that I managed to grow up without reading, somehow.

I have been reading a lot of non-fiction lately, mostly relating to my country's military history, and I felt like I needed a bit of a lighter read-- something quick and easy and fictional-- so I decided it would be a good time to read "A Handful of Time." I found it an enoyable book, and it held my interest well, even though it's not always the happiest read. I think it seems a little bit dated at times (the world has changed a lot in the last 30 years) but it didn't really bother me. The main themes are universal enough that the setting's not the most important thing. It reminded me a fair bit of The Girl From Away by Claire Mowat, which came out a few years after this one-- only this one is a bit more fanciful with a time-travel element, and it's set in Canada's west rather than Canada's east.

Anyway, in celebration of the sesquicentennial, I have dedicated my 2017 bookcrossing activity to the reading and sharing of Canadian stories. As this story was written by Canadian author Kit Pearson and is an award-winning book here in Canada, I thought that it would be a good inclusion in my Canada 150 project.

This book was released as part of the 2017 "52 Towns in 52 Weeks" Release Challenge. I finished my 52 in August, but I've kept on going. Ancaster was Town #67 for me!
