1965 Indonesia: a tumultuous year of political insecurity, shattered illusions and unfulfilled promises. The novel centres on the lives of a group of foreign journalists in Jakarta, in particular the Australian Guy Hamilton, and his enigmatic cameraman Billy Kwan, a Chinese-Australian dwarf.

It's a very well told tale with interesting and well developed characters, and a wonderful sense of place evoking the heat, humidity, poverty and smells of the city. A tense tale based on real events leading up to, during and just after the regime change from Sukarno to Suharto. And a love interest angle which is not straightforward but doesn't get in the way too much.

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

Acclaimed but not by me. I really struggled to get into this tale of foreign journalists in Jakarta at the time of Sukarno's fall. Ticked off Indonesia for the 666 challenge thanks to a generous bxer.
