A great book - interesting characters, a horror novel with a sense of humour. Am registering this to start a Book Ring - it leaves today on it's first adventure, to my dear friend M in Indiana. :-)

I took part in herebedragons's Book Ring - a really interesting and pleasant experience if you like receiving nice things in the mail.

I already finished it - it's a very interesting book, and has a little (or a lot - it varies) of everything: humour, horror, history, mythology, magic and magic tricks, dreams, and more.

It's beautiful, beautiful writing; everyone should read it (unless you absolutely detest mythology, which can happen, I suppose). I would also recommend reading Gaiman's "Sandman."

I finally finished it and soon it will be on its merry way to Suzen in France...

"Shadow is a man with a past. But now he wants nothing more than a quiet life with his wife and stay out of trouble. Until he learns that she's been killed in a terrible accident.
Flying home for the funeral, as a violent storm rocks the plane, a strange man in the seat next to him introduces himself. The man calls himself Mr. Wednesday, and he knows more about Shadow than is possible.
He warns Shadow that a far bigger storm is coming. And from that moment on, nothing will ever be the same..."

"As unsettling as it is exhilarating, American Gods is a dark and kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth and across an America at once eerily familiar and utterly alien. Magnificently told, this work of literary magic will haunt the reader far beyond the final page."

A very quirky and very fascinating read. If you are not into the slightly weird, this is probably not for you, but I had a great time. The best part for me was to always figure out if and which god the various characters were that Shadow kept stumbling into on his strange road trip accross the states...

This was waiting for me when I got back from my summer in the States. Thanks for the post card and other odds and ends. I hope you'd used all the minutes on your phone card! I love looking at stuff like that from other countries. I'll journal again once I've read the book. Thanks!!

I tried a couple of times, but I'm afraid I just couldn't get into this story. I guess it's not my kind of genre. I'm mailing it on today. Thanks for sharing!
