I got this softcover at the Book Cellar. It's an anthology themed on various types of video games, from text-based to virtual-reality. Some of them deal with the "too immersed in gaming at the expense of real life" aspect, while others simply revel in the concept of being in a game - for good or ill... Among my favorites:

"Desert Walk" by S. R. Mastrantone presents a game in which nothing ever happens, no matter how far you walk or what you try - and which is strangely addictive to those who are sure that if you just play long enough you'll find the secret.

Holly Black's "1Up", in which online friends meet at the real-life funeral of one of their number, only to find that he left behind a game with an unusual twist.

"End Game" by Chris Avellone is in the form of a text-based game that opens with "You are in your bed" and proceeds from there - delightfully sinister.

T. C. Boyle's wrenching "The Relive Box," about a gadget that lets people re-experience memories - which can be addicting and sometimes terrifying.

"All the People in Your Party Have Died" by Robin Wasserman, a dark spin on the very early - and very grim - "Oregon Trail" game.

"Anda's Game" by Cory Doctorow pits in-game warriors against real-world worker-abuse (via sweatshops devoted to game-grinding for treasure that can be sold online).

Andy Weir's snarky "Twarrior," in which a man's youthful attempt at a self-aware computer program turns out better - or perhaps worse - than he imagined.

And much more!
