I got this paperback at Annie's Book Stop. It's the next in the "Em Hansen" series, after Killer Dust, and features some significant fallout in character relationships and life-changes since the events of that book.
This one has a very different setting and premise: Em is hired to test mineral samples from a painting purported to be by classic American West artist Frederic Remington - but of course the story's not that simple, and there are an escalating series of suspicious deaths, combined with the ongoing very-strange-relationships of the characters. The end plot was pretty twisty, too, and not all that satisfying... so, yeah, I probably won't dip into this series any further. (But some of the Western scenery, loving descriptions of paintings, and the actual forensic-geology bits were good - just too few and far between!)
