When Oxford historian Daniel Kind falls for Miranda, they decide to escape to a new life in a cottage in Brackdale in the Lake District. But Daniel holidayed their as a child, and met the former occupant, an autistic man later accused of murder. A young woman was brutally killed and left on the Sacrifice Stone, an ancient pagan site with numerous legends attached. The man died before he could be charged, but when DCI Hannah Scarlett starts a cold case review, ghosts of the past return to haunt Daniel and his peaceful new life is challenged. Readable murder mystery, with interesting characters.
