I started reading this book to add to the Bookbox of the Apocalypse. I only got about 20% into it before giving it up. It was a chore to decipher the meaning of many of the sentences. I could get it done, but it was too much for me. And I didn't connect with the characters. No reason to continue after I came to that realization.
I understand that this is an important book as it is the first to bring us cyberpunk. So, don't let me influence you on this book. It just wasn't for me. But there are so many people that love it and sing its praises! I do hope it will find someone that will enjoy it.

One of the best first sentences I've encountered:
The sky above the port was the color of television, tuned to a dead channel.
Unfortunately my interest waned from there.
I do see its influences on the Wachowskis' Matrix franchise but, unlike most sci-fi, couldn't correlate it to the present-day human experience and one of our possible futures. I honestly sped-read the latter half of the book.
Am leaving it unrated as I tend to judge "classics" unfairly.
