>> The Haunt family have gone and done it. On an impulse, Maude, her husband Horation and ther two small children have left ther tiny London terrace for the sunflower fields and the "vie rustique" of Southern France.

Up the road, the scruffy Hotel Marronnier is about to change hands again. Daffy Fielding has fallen in love with the place and has dragged her husband to France to persuade him to buy it. Which he does - before heading straight back home to his mistress. Can timid Daffy make a life for herself alone?

Watchin over all the new arrivals is the glamorous, predatory, eternally bored Lady Emma Rankin. From her exquisite châteu nearby, she pulls strings to bring the new wives together. But is it Horatio, rather than Maude, who she really wants to sip Sancerre with?
Or is her eye on the gorgeous local builder, the only one of them all who is party to the Haunts family's explosive secret? <<

This is about a group of English wives who have chosen to live in France, because they like the climate and most of them can speak French. The exception is Daffy Fielding, who saw an interesting old hotel about to change hands. She dragged her husband to France to see it and asked him to buy it for her, despite her inability to speak French. He was happy to buy it so Daffy could stay there and he return to England to be with his girlfriend.
Poor Daffy struggles to get the hotel up and running, with her lack of French. She is determined to learn it and does so with the help of a handyman who she employs to do repairs at the hotel. She teaches him English in return.
The story is mostly about the people who come to the Hotel. Also others who live in the village. It's an entertaining story with lots of things happening.

I couldn't get beyond someone calling a child "Superman". How cruel and weird. (If it's a nickname; still weird, but that wasn't explained in the first few pages.) It might be a good read, but I would grit my teeth every time I heard that poor unfortunate kid's name, so I didn't get beyond a few pages.
