The deep South is still pretty backwards in a lot of ways. This account vividly tells of the racism and violence encountered by blacks from civil war, to civil rights. I lived down there for a year, and wrote a paper on this book, so you'll have to excuse the highlighting and notes in the margins. A powerful story.

Book Found! I think this is a great idea and look forward to reading this book and passing it on the the next unsuspecting reader.

It was an eye opening read. You can almost feel like you were there seeing the events through the writers eyes. It would have been very scary, I think, to have been brave enough to try and stand up for your rights. Something that many of us will never have to know. My only problem was the ending, I felt that I would like to know a little more of what happened to the writer.

Just thought I would let you all know that a friend was kind enough to take this book with her to Paris, France to be set free. She said she found a quaint place to leave it. Happy hunting.
