I've followed the snarky/nerdy webcomic Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal for some time now, and have acquired some of their cartoon collections, including Science: Ruining Everything since 1543. When I saw the announcement of this book, I pre-ordered it at once, and it just arrived.

It's a change of pace from the cartoon collections, touching on a variety of emerging technologies that may - or may not - have a significant effect on global society, and I'm looking forward to the mix of nerdy humor, science, and extreme sarcasm that are the hallmarks of the webcomic {wry grin}.

Later: Lots of fun here, informative and goofy by turns. In one segment on potential energy, there's an example involving finding the energy in a taught crossbow vs. a slack one by dissolving them in acid, and the authors note that kids might have paid more attention in high school physics if the teachers had talked about dissolving crossbows.

There are fun things to do with 3D printing ("Gargoyles! Gargoyles for everyone!"), a delightful example of atomic fusion using a room full of geeks as the atomic particles, the idea of a "virtual mirror interface" (which is a horror story come to life), and more. In a section on synthetic biology they note that someday you might be able to write "Kick me" in your skin with bioluminescent chemicals, and then add "If you lived near MIT this was probably already true..." Hee! There's also the "graveyard of lost chapters", which are "less soonisher"; some of those made me wish they'd made the original cut. But I enjoyed it all!

[There's a TV Tropes page on the webcomic, with some interesting tidbits.]
