I've had this hefty hardcover on my keeper shelves for ages, and I think it's time it went traveling. It's a look at forensic medicine in England from the 16th century (with some notes from even earlier) through the 19th, with illustrations and court transcripts describing the ways in which legal investigations of crimes or suspicious deaths changed over time. Given modern scientific methods - and the popularity of forensic-crime TV shows, some of which wildly overplay the capabilities of science - it's interesting to see how people coped when all they had to work with was their own five senses and (with luck) open and analytical minds...

Found it at the Atwood cemetery. Read most of the introduction and a selection of other parts. Not of particular interest to me.
