Most of these stories were interesting and fun to read, thought they would be a bit more scary and exciting though.

This was a wonderful collection of classic spooky stories! I enjoyed the creepy atmosphere and gothic-leanings of these tales. The authors were a good blend of well-known folks and people I'd never heard of. I also was very happy with the short intros to each story, which nicely balanced pointing out important historical and personal details that might affect reading, without giving away too much plot.
I think this is one of my favorite finds from the Sweepstakes!
Some of my favorite stories were:
"The Book" by Margaret Irwin, which blends horror with sarcastic, bookish humor. Even as our main character suffers, I couldn't help being amused by the torments invented for the bookish. (Finding every book you try to read intolerable is quite the heavy curse!) Of course, things later take a much darker turn.
"The Nature of the Evidence" by May Sinclair features one of the best narrator voices. I can just picture our gossipy narrator huffing her way through the bewildering, scandalizing tale!
"The Tractate Middoth" by M R James is definitely an example of why his ghost stories are still popular. His characters feel very human, and it is easy to put ourselves into the place of a frustrated book-borrower attempting to find a library book that never seems to be where it was supposed to be. (Although one would hope that such a book would be less deadly than this one!)

Enjoyed most of these stories, some were scary and others weren't. Some I would need to read more than once to fully understand what was going on. The story that stood out the most for me was "The Book" by Margaret Irwin.
