I got this little hardcover from the gift shop at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, after spending a lovely day viewing the art works with my visiting cousins. (I was especially fond of the still life paintings, some of which featured tempting plates of oysters - so when I saw the book I had to pick it up!)

I'd expected a book about different oyster places in Paris, but this one focuses on one tiny, exclusive, eccentric oyster bar - and in such loving terms that I longed for a chance to visit someday. But as that's unlikely, I'll be satisfied with this vicarious visit, and will enjoy the many lovely varieties of oysters available in my region.

I enjoyed the author's memories of her earliest experiences with oysters, tidbits of history and biology of the bivalves, and the descriptions of the different types, their flavors, and the ways in which they can be prepared. There are instructions on how to open them, and what to drink with them - in fact, quite a lot of information for such a tiny book!

I left this book propped up near the entrance of Surf, where I've had some very fine oysters indeed. Hope someone enjoys the book!
