I've had this softcover on my keeper shelves for ages, and I think it's time it went traveling. As with Dalby's first ghost-story collection, this one includes a variety of tales from many different authors. Perhaps my favorite in this collection is M. R. James' "Rats", a marvelous little chiller in which the horror is all the more potent for appearing in a bright, sun-drenched room.

*** Update: the book was caught and journaled before I could make release notes; thanks to the finder! I left the book on a picnic table near the pond in front of the Radisson hotel on Spit Brook Road at around noon on Oct. 12, so it really hasn't been in the wild all that long. Happy Halloween!

It finally feels like fall, and I had gone out for a walk to enjoy the outdoors. This book was sitting by itself on the ground, and seems to have been travelling for a few days before I found it. Despite a few days of rain and wet weather, this book remained bone dry... and cropping up just in time for Halloween. Spooky events surrounding a spooky book? Count me in!
