I got this good-condition softcover at a local Savers thrift shop. It's a charming look at the flora and fauna in a typical New England backyard, arranged by season. There are scientific observations and personal ones, of which I preferred the latter - the author's encounters with skunks, snakes, etc. entertained me, especially when I recalled similar incidents in my own yard! (As I write this, a squirrel tried to leap from a tree onto a peanut feeder and missed, plummeting past the window in a furry grey blur. It only succeeds maybe once in every three or four tries, but that doesn't deter it; I guess when the ground is covered with frozen slush, a squirrel will go to a lot of trouble for some tasty peanuts...)
