Claiming this one from the Hodgepodge Diminishing bookbox.

Later: The opening to this one reminded me a bit of the movie "Lifeforce" (based loosely on The Space Vampires), with a nearly-dead woman who exerts strange influences on those who see her - and apparently has the ability to destroy at the blink of an eye. The story parts ways with "Lifeforce" after that, though the alien-causing-trouble-via-host aspect persists. I found the romance quite hard to accept, with a creepy "Sleeping Beauty" vibe to it - basically, the first two men to see the woman are unnerved or outright hostile, hence her retaliations, while the one who first sees her in the hospital and finds her entrancingly beautiful somehow becomes bonded to her and vice versa. I mean, love at first sight creeps in to lots of stories, but the setup here makes it feel coerced, and while the truth is a bit more complicated, the whole thing put me off.

As for the main (non-romance) plot, it's alien-visitation/spying, with scientists-being-unpleasant elements thrown in - and with occasional passages from the alien's point of view, which should have been more interesting than I found it. Overall I get the impression that the author (better known for light-ish mysteries such as the "Midnight Louie" books) doesn't really have her heart in science fiction...
