I got this paperback from a local thrift shop. I'd read the novella in King's anthology Skeleton Crew; this stand-alone edition is a movie-tie-in edition to the 2007 film.

The story deals with the residents of a small Maine town in the aftermath of a storm. At first they're just coping with the usual cleanup - and then a heavy fog settles in, with increasingly sinister and downright eldritch aspects. But the humans may be the worst monsters, given the way some of them turn on each other as the fear and danger increase.

["The Mist" also has its own TV Tropes page, touching on the story, the film, and the 2017 TV series; entertaining, but do beware of spoilers if you haven't read/watched it yet.]
