Another day, another "if you liked The Girl on the Train you'll love this!" psychological thriller. In this case, a couple go next door to a dinner party, leaving their young baby alone in their house, and return to find her gone.

It starts off well enough, appearing to be a straightforward child abduction story, but as various twists are revealed along the way it becomes less and less plausible.

*Spoilers*

It turns out that the baby's father has arranged the abduction to try to extort money from his wife's parents, but then that his father in law has used one of his associates to suggest the idea to him and eventually get him out of his daughter's life. The baby's mother is horrified when she discovers her husband's involvement but then oddly enough seems to forgive him as soon as she finds out the role her father played. Surely you wouldn't want a man in your life who was prepared to put you and your baby through that instead of just admitting his business was in trouble? A much better ending would have involved Anne and her baby going it alone, but then she has a weak, unstable personality and the final twist is pure nonsense.

A cheap, unsatisfying read which might be a distraction for a few hours if your brain isn't up to much more.
