From the publisher's website:

"In a London flat, two young boys face the unbearable sadness of their mother's sudden death. Their father, a Ted Hughes scholar and scruffy romantic, imagines a future of well-meaning visitors and emptiness.

In this moment of despair they are visited by Crow - antagonist, trickster, healer, babysitter. This sentimental bird is drawn to the grieving family and threatens to stay until they no longer need him.

This extraordinary debut, full of unexpected humour and emotional truth, marks the arrival of a thrilling and significant new talent."

Original, outstanding, unforgettable. A little gem. I think I need to get a copy for my PC shelf, too.

This one, however, will now start its journey towards Australia as a wishlist RABCK. Enjoy!

Wow - a letterbox surprise!! Thank you so much for this unexpected RABCK, Annimanni. :D

It looks really interesting and has had many positive (and genuine) reviews. I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks again.

This is a wonderful and moving book. A clever, original and quirky look at a family’s grief, but never pretentious in the process. The language is often very poetic and some of Crow’s sections are just begging to be read aloud. I know very little of Ted Hughes poetry but now am interested enough to go looking for Crow: From the Life and Songs of the Crow.

I’d certainly recommend this book. It’s short and succinct, and there’s humour woven in amongst the despair. And it’s given me a new appreciation for crows…

I’ll be reading it again before finding it a new reader.

I found an audiobook version from the library and listened to it today. It was even better the second time, and the narrator (Jot Davies) does an excellent job.
