Book Description:
Not only is Scarlett Parker's love life in the loo--as her British cousin Vivian Tremont would say--it's also gone viral with an embarrassing video. So when Viv suggests Scarlett leave Florida to lay low in London, she hops on the next plane across the pond. Viv is the proprietor of Mims's Whims, a ladies' hat shop on Portobello Road bequeathed to both cousins by their beloved grandmother, and she wants Scarlett to finally join her in the millinery business.

But a few surprises await Scarlett in London. First, she is met at the airport not by Viv, but by her handsome business manager, Harrison Wentworth. Second, Viv--who has some whims of her own--seems to be missing. No one is too concerned about the unpredictable Viv until one of her posh clients is found dead wearing the cloche hat Viv made for her--and nothing else. Is Scarlett's cousin in trouble? Or is she in hiding?

I have been to Portobello Road, but it was too touristy to my taste. However my favourite sh-bookshop was in Notting Hill Gate, so I have some fond memories - and books - from that area. Haven't been there for years, though, as bookcrossing keeps my book count high enough.
It's still early days, but this seems like a nice read and getting to London one way or other is always a treat.

I liked the book very much, clever plotting and word games. The writer had been nervous of placing the book in foreign setting, but she did it very well. It felt very natural.
I guess I will have to travel to London again, as I learned from the book that Freddie Mercury is buried in Kensal Green Cemetery in Kensington. Would like to pay him my respects. Mom died a little over a year ago and I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody, the movie which had just come out, to sort of take my mind off for a few hours. I was so surprised at the end of the movie to learn that Mom and Freddie had died on the same day - 27 years apart.
About the plotting, as the book was nearing its end I thought there is so little left that I must have "met" the culprit and that is when I got the scent... But still could not quite put my finger on it.
Hippolein, if you happen to have any more books by the same author, I will gladly take them off your hands...
I will send this to somebody who has a birthday coming up soon.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Forgot to say that I'm not the least bit surprised that Mim still hangs around her old house. My Mom's family used to live two floors down from my current dollhouse (they had more room...) and finally the only one left was Auntie Mia, who lived there over 70 years. She passed away in 2015 (aged 94) and now that I've lived in the same house for a couple of months not one single time have I had difficulties in finding a parking space - which is my constant problem where I normally live. I say that Auntie Mia keeps the space for me and somehow I have a feeling that she is very near when I am there. Well, she loved Lauttasaari, where else would she go?

But now Scarlett is off to a birthday party, have fun with this "first in new series".

This was a very nice mystery, I have to add more of the series to my wishlist! I enjoyed the characters, the hatshop and of course London - during my au-pair year (1987!) in England (in Birmingham) I visited London four times, but unfortunately they were all just day-trips, so I only saw maybe 10 % of things/places I would have wanted to... so, have to plan another trip there, after 30+ years...
