I got this fair-condition softcover from the ongoing book-sale at the Milford NH public library. I admit I'd assumed it was an actual gardening book, and had planned to release it at a scented garden with sculptural signs for blind visitors! Turns out it's a novel, centering on a family who've all become sensory-deprived in one way or another, and whose relationships are very difficult. I tackled the book but just couldn't get into it - though when I skimmed to the end I found a shocking denouement (alas, telegraphed on the cover-blurb on the back) that should have been the focus of the story, at least in my opinion. As it was, it seemed a throwaway line, leading to a poetic yet very bleak concluding few sentences. If I'd been able to get into the story and read it properly, this might have had more impact, but I suppose I'll have to pass it along and hope it finds a more suitable reader!

I left this book in the Little Free Library on this chilly day; hope someone enjoys it!
