There has to be some part of Tony Hawks' humour, that works only for native speakers. Otherwise I can't explain, why "Round Ireland with a Fridge" is so far the only book, I liked better in German translation than in original.
And also here: Yes, the were really funny parts - but most of the time I was annoyed by Tony's naivitee, his arrogance and chauvinism. - And at some points I even was bored. - Maybe I'm missing some very subtle tongue-in-cheek - or maybe the book has not aged very well...
