This book will remain in my permanent collection.

This book was almost impossible to put down towards the end. I kept wondering what Nicolas did, as throughout the book he alluded to some horrific crime on his part. I won't spoil the ending for those who haven't read it. Suffice it to say I think Shreve brilliantly captured her character -- a fussy academic confined within Victorian sensibilities. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
