The Track of Sand (Inspector Montalbano Mysteries)
2 journalers for this copy...
Inspector Montalbano rises on morning to find the carcass of a horse on the beach in front of his seaside home. But no sooner do his men arrive, than the body has mysteriously vanished leaving only a track in the sand . . .
Montalbano, his curiosity piqued, investigates, and before long things take a more disturbing turn . . . Who has Montalbano upset within the strange, unfamiliar world of horse-racing?
And what has the Mafia to do with it all?
We got hooked on the television version with Luca Zingaretti being shown on BBC4 with English subtitles, so when I saw the first book, I couldn't resist. Lots of things that wouldn't make sense to non-Italians watching the TV programme are explained as Montalbano's thoughts or as end-notes to the text . . .
