"In Veronika Decides to Die, Paulo Coelho takes the reader on a distinctly modern quest to find meaning in a culture overshadowed by angst, soulless routine, and pervasive conformity. Based on events in Coelho's own life, Veronika Decides to Die questions the meaning of madness and celebrates individuals who do not fit into patterns society considers to be normal. Poignant and illuminating, it is a dazzling portrait of a young woman at the crossroads of despair and liberation, and a poetic, exuberant appreciation of each day as a renewed opportunity."

Brilliant. An excellent read. Very thought provoking and it is one that is going to stay with me for a while.

Extremely thought provoking, and yes I agree - I'm going to be thinking about this book a long time afterwards, especially the thoughts about The Expulsion of Adam and Eve - wow, something I'd NEVER contemplated before!
I don't know why this book is considered the second in a series (I've read the first: 'By The River Piedra I sat down and wept'), it is nothing like the first and shares no characters. Where I thought that first one was so-so, I liked this one and loved the characters too.

Thank you for the book and lovely bookmark! :)

I have read it in french a while ago, so I will release it when I find it a good home or place. ;)

I'll copy-paste the comment I had made then:
"I struggled to get into the story, and overall I found the book rather painful to read."
