(Note: Well, it was hard for me to put this under the "History" category, but being honest with myself, 1963 was over 50 years ago. Oh boy....now I feel really old.) If you are North-American, you might think the Beatles were "Nowhere Men" in 1963, when in fact, they were HUGE in England. They had already broken, and so had the Rolling Stones. This book takes a look at that wild, 1960's youth-oriented scene in England - emphasis on the music scene. There is no narrative - the entire book is made up of quotes from people who were the movers and groovers. From a Goodreads review: "There are interview snippets with many people, including Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jeff Lynne, Georgie Fame, Bill Wyman, Mary Quant, Patti Boyd, Mandy Rice Davies, Graham Nash, Andrew Loog Oldham and Peter Noone. As you can see, much of the book is taken up by musicians or those involved with the music business (which was fine by me, as it was the area I was most interested in, but just be aware that the majority of those interviewed are musicians). Also, although there are interviews with American artists, such as Carly Simon and Neil Sedaka, the bulk of the book is British."

Much of the book is very entertaining - both Keith Richards and Eric Clapton give thoughtful and insightful information on the music industry in the early 1960's. It is wonderful to hear how there was a lack of competition among musicians, and how they would help each other out. It was, you feel, a friendly and welcoming time for musicians to come together in the spirit of mutual cooperation. The Beatles, for instance, helping the Rolling Stones to get a record contract and writing them a song; the groups socialising together and creating wonderful music, which has stood the test of time." 'Looking forward to reading this book, and it's reserved for Donfiction & Jessibud after. May I add to the Rock & Roll Library afterwards?

- 7 out of 10. For me, this was a fun read (being a rock & roll/British Invasion geek) and I hope it will be for others, but if you are looking for a deep look into 1963 - geo-politics, feminism, economics, etc., this is not the book. It's not fluffy, since the words are real quotes from the likes of Eric Clapton, Graham Nash, Pattie Boyd, etc., but that's all you get: other peoples' words - no discussion in essay format.

I will bring this back to you at our next meetup and yes, you may keep it in your permanent collection for your R&R library.

I read the first chapter, then skimmed the rest, enjoying the photos. But I prefer a storyline and understand completely how this is more your book than mine, lol!

This book is currently sitting on my PC R&R bookshelf, and I'm thinking....I'll see if my niece Annie (the Brit Invasion fan) would like to read it next. Since we're having a meetup in April....I'll pass along an invite to her.

Well, no JE appeared in my inbox but once you told me you made one, I came to my bookshelf to see and sure enough, I see your entry even though I did not get any email notice of it. The system is still not working as it has taken me 4 tries, with *error* after *error* to even be able to make this entry of my own.

Sigh. I suppose it could be worse.

Testing, testing....a little bird told me that the Journal Entry problem has been resolved. For me, that means BX'ing is BACK! Without Journal Entries (JE') Bookcrossing goes nowhere fast.
