This is traveling in the Other Worldly Bookbox. Enjoy.
I'm claiming this from the Otherworldly Bookbox.
While this is the second in a series, I didn't feel that I missed a lot by not having read the first book; the author provides enough details about the fantasy-world culture and characters to bring the reader up to speed. Those details are intriguing, involving sacred marriage - a goddess inhabits a chosen woman from the harem, while the king represented the country. It isn't required for the chosen woman to remain with the king as queen - but if it happens it's a prestigious and powerful role, one that the father of heroine Naya wants for his daughter. But she's in love with the court seer, and while she's happy to fill her role in the sacred marriage she doesn't want it to be permanent.
Some interesting world-building here, and a change in the usual "heroine in the harem" story arc {wry grin}. On the other hand, both Naya and her beloved seem to suffer from can't-spit-it-out syndrome - though there are reasons why each of them had to be less than forthright. It was still frustrating!
The story has an epic feel, with a bittersweet conclusion. Not bad!
