I got this fair-condition softcover at a local Savers thrift shop. It's a detailed - and often harrowing - account of the life of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, whose plans for another Olympic run were derailed by WWII. Not only did he survive the crash of his bomber and a prolonged stay on a life raft, but he then had to cope with captivity by the Japanese - who apparently took the surrender of US prisoners as a sign that they had no honor and were therefore deserving of the most appallingly brutal treatment... From the early accounts of Louis' life to the riveting details of his time at the 1936 Olympics, and on to the intense wartime events, the book's quite intriguing.
[The book inspired the 2014 film. There's a TV Tropes page on the film, with references to the book as well.]
