This is a book about the relationship between Elsa and her granny and the power of storytelling. I expected to love this book as much as I loved "A man called Ove", but this one just wasn't my cup of tea.

Just sent the book to chocbrownie in England. Hope you like the book!
Arrived safely - big thanks to I_like_to _read. Looking forward to reading this...
Backman plays safe, by yet again, using characters that are on the spectrum - this therefore makes another interesting character read for me. I didn't particularly like the use of the use of fairy tales for Elsa to cope with life but loved the connections made between the people that lived in her block of flats. I've popped Backman's next novel on my Wishlist as curious what approach he will make.
Posted to rodespringbal, as it was on her wishlist.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Loved this book. I loved Elsa, although I found her a bit too grown-up. Heartwarming story about families and people living in one house and specifically a little girl and her grandmother. Grandma is hilarious. In My Grandmother Asked me to Tell You She's Sorry, Backman weaves a creative tapestry of the ordinary together with the extraordinary. Characters that are real, flawed yet magnificent, or as Granny puts it,
"no one is entirely a sh*t and almost no one is entirely not a sh*t".
It tells a story that is both wise and insightful, absurd and wondrous as it explores the themes of grief, love, difference, connection, regrets and forgiveness.

Got it ! Thank you.
I never had read an Harry Potter novel nor seen a movie and I'm not a big fan of fairytales or superheroes so, of course, I missed a lot of allusions.
I liked the idea though.

Here as a ring - as I'm just back from holiday this is not the only one which has rolled in, so I'll try to get to it as soon as possible. Thanks so much for sending, and for making it available.
There are a number of Swedish writers who are being translated more and more - often suspense thrillers (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series is an obvious example), but there seems to be a whole other vein of rich ore now being made available to readers outside of Scandanavia. This is a good example. The main character is a seven (almost eight!) year old girl, and she has to come to terms with the death of her grandmother and a better understanding of who her grandmother was, as well as the people who make up her world. It's moving and quirky. I loved the idea of a place to store sorrow - that they don't lessen, but need to be stowed sometimes. An interesting read I would probably not have picked up if it hadn't come my way as a bookcrossing ring, for which I am, as ever, grateful.
I have the next address and will try to send it soon.

This travelled by car from Switzerland to France, and now heads off and over the channel to the UK. Thanks for making this available... Enjoy!

For the most part I enjoyed this tale of a little girl coping with life without her beloved granny. I loved the idea of the fairy tales as substitutions for the real hardships in the world and really enjoyed the connections between all of the characters. My absolute favourite was the wurse. It's bond with elsa reminded me of my own dog back in Baltimore.

The postman left the book to the wrong address and the book has been stuck for several weeks in my neighbour's apartment, as he was away! Finally, it's with me and I can't wait to start it.
Thank you for sharing!

Bittersweet, charming, funny but at the same time it can make you cry.
I enjoyed it very much. One of the best books I've read this year!
Thanks again for sharing

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
On its way to the next bookcrosser in Germany
Well, this looks like a well-travelled book.. I think I will use some TLC so it'll survive the on-going journey..
Thanks for sending it my way - just two book before to finish ;-)

Well, sorry to say, but I have given up on this.
I didn't like "Ove" as much as others did - and - my fault - I hadn't realized that this is the same author..
I will send the book on as soon as possible!
P.S. I don't know whether this already was a used book, but for being sent on in 2017 it really looks beaten :-(
I tried to restore it a bit for the ongoing journey..

Received in the mail a couple of days ago. Will put it next in my TBR pile after my current read.
Sorry to be so slow with this. I have had some health problems lately. But I'm up and running again now!
I loved this book! It is funny and heartwarming and heartbreaking. Sometimes I think books lose something in the translation from other languages, but this was translated beautifully. I love Elsa and her eccentric grandmother and the way each character has a story related to them.
Thanks for including me in the ring. I have iwillrejoice's address and will send this along shortly.

OK, I will wild release this copy, & send Joanazinha another copy via Better World Books, as per my conversation with rodespringbal.
