I got this fair-condition softcover at the Dunstable MA public library's ongoing book sale. It's a theater-themed mystery that deals with lost works of Shakespeare - and the ongoing "who really wrote the plays" question, which I admit has never interested me all that much. The setup here was interesting, though from the get-go it suffered from the too-mysterious message, and the protagonist who opts not to hand over the McGuffin to the police as soon as the first murder occurs. (Whether that would have helped isn't clear, but it might have saved several lives...)

The author ties the burning of Shakespeare's Globe theater to a long-lost missionary in the American southwest - and, according to the notes at the end, relies on many more factual tidbits than I'd have guessed, though a few things were made up.

While individual scenes were effective, I didn't enjoy the stalking/conspiracy aspects of the story - and when the chief villain (however well-intentioned) turned out to be my favorite character, I was outright miffed {wry grin}.
