I got this handsome hardcover at the Dunstable MA public library's ongoing book sale. It's from a series centering on game warden Mike Bowditch, who keeps getting involved in crimes other than your basic poaching. In this book, two women go missing while hiking a remote leg of the Appalachian trail in Maine, and Mike is among those tapped to help with the search. When the women are found dead, there's a mix of personal family issues, media-fueled hysteria, and the all too real risk that the perpetrator will strike again...

I appreciated the local color and the details of the Maine forests and mountains; the main characters didn't really grab me, though. I kept finding the secondary plots more interesting than the main one!

I left this book propped on a window ledge outside The Bar, next to the park; hope the finder enjoys it!
