This afternoon I went to a very interesting author event organised by the Little Ripon (independent) Bookshop: a cream tea and talk by Julia Stagg, now known as Julia Chapman in her role as the author of Date with Death, the first of her new Dales Detective series. She very kindly gave us all a copy of this, her first ever published novel! Thank you!

From Google Overview: "The small commune of Fogas in the French Pyrenees has been thrown into turmoil by the revelation that the Auberge des Deux Vallées has been bought by an English couple and not by the Mayor's brother-in-law as had been expected. With everyone aghast at the idea of an English run restaurant and the certainty of gastronomic disasters, Mayor Serge Papon is in the mood to take revenge. Within hours of hearing the news, he has called an emergency Committee meeting and his machinations to force out the new owners have begun.
But the Mayor hasn't reckoned on one of his deputies, Christian Dupuy, whose conscience always leads his politics. Refusing to condone Mayor Papon's calls to compulsory purchase of the Auberge, he proposes an alternative solution which will prevent the Mayor from getting his own way. Or will it . . ."

Not my sort of story. I don't refuse free books but knew at once that I wouldn't have chosen it for myself. I did give it a go but soon gave up. I couldn't get interested in visiting Fictional Fogas, although I'm sure someone else will . . . .

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

To my friend Millycat when we met for a lovely pub lunch with our husbands. Thanks for your hospitality! Good to see you again :-)

Well over a million people around the world give their books a unique BookCrossing IDentity number (BCID) before sending them out to find new readers. Since the start of the scheme in April 2001 nearly twelve million such books have been put into circulation. This is one of them!

Our hope is that we can track the progress of our books once they've left our hands - and that's possible if finders like you visit the website, key in the BCID and leave a comment, however long or short. It's fun, it doesn't have to cost anything, although the site always appreciates donations towards running costs, and you can remain anonymous if you wish. You don't have to join but if you do you'll be able to number and track your own books!
