I kept seeing this book at Cost Co but I have been trying to keep my book buying under control. Then I found a copy in a little free library so it seemed like the universe was telling me to read this book!

I didn't realize until after I finished reading Lilac Girls that it was based on real people which makes it even more interesting. Caroline Farraday was a socialite in New York who worked (for free) at the French Consulate in New York in the 1940s. After World War II ended, she learned of the Rabbits, women in the concentration camps who Dr. Herta Oberheuser experimented on. Lilac Girls tells the story of what happened from alternating points of view (Caroline, Herta, and Katia, a Polish girl in the concentration camp). Very well written and moving story.

Released this book into a Little Free Library - happy travels!
