This is a really well written story that starts with urban explorers in Paris discovering a seemingly abandoned apartment that hasn't been entered for 70 years. Somehow the current owners are informed of the discovery, and then find there are nearly 300 original works of art including Renoir, Manet and Dali. Art specialists are brought in from London to research the provenance only to find a link to the Nazi art specialists involved in "purchases" from the Jewish community during the war. The owners of the artworks, in the course of the research, discover previously unknown family history that rocks polite society......

Thank you for this book all the way from Canada. It looks like something I will enjoy.
My first impression was that this book would be a light, fluffy read.. and while it was a bit of that, I really found the history behind this story fascinating, and not "light and fluffy" at all.
I appreciate the author's efforts at balancing the big picture historical background with the details of the main characters' lives.. not an easy task. And while I'm not sure that all the sub-plots were quite necessary, it did add realism to the plot.. behind the big stories are real people with a lot of complex issues and details.

This veteran of the Global Sweeps is travelling to a new winner! Congratulations!
I started reading this book and I only have about 50 pages to go, but I don't think I will bother finishing it. I enjoyed the parts that were about the history and the sort-of-mystery about finding a room that has been closed for 70+ years. But I got very annoyed by the lame love story, the way it unfolded was too predictable and it really decreased the level of the book.

A pleasant surprise indeed! Thank you, Bookworm-lady! I love Paris and, based on the first sentence, was hoping that the book I chose would be set there. :)
