I bought this from the secondhand bookshop at Woolsthorpe Manor, the National Trust property in Lincolnshire we visited this morning. It was where Isaac Newton grew up and includes the famous apple orchard, currently in blossom . . . .
I chose it because I enjoy historical fiction, yet haven't read many novels set way back in the 11th century!

Amazon Editorial Review: "The setting is Britain, 1045. The Normans are circling, waiting their turn to pounce on the English throne and wrest it away from the Anglo-Saxon barons who grudgingly support King Edward the Confessor, the childless, half-Norman "Virgin King." The royal court is a hotbed of rumor and political intrigue, and everything hinges on the succession. Godiva, wife of Lovric, Earl of Mercia, one of the most powerful barons—and a major landowner in her own right—is drawn into the court machinations. When Edward manipulates their son into a treasonable act and makes him a pawn in his power play, Godiva's ferocious maternal instincts rise to the fore. As the courtly scheming undermines Godiva's hitherto solid marriage and drives her to despair and confusion, the stage is set for a story so powerful its impact has survived for a thousand years. This tale of an independent, resourceful, and intelligent noblewoman tested to the limits of her endurance illuminates one of the great myths of British history."

This didn't hold my attention in the way I thought it might.
I hope it has more luck with its next reader!

Released 6 yrs ago (12/18/2017 UTC) at Leeds, West Yorkshire United Kingdom

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

When we discovered that the Trinity Official BookCrossing Zone in Leeds had folded and all the remaining books given to charity, Deltic and I decided to swap the books we'd taken to donate there and wild release each other's books some place else . . . This is one of the ones I gave to him . . . . Happy travelling!

It was rather sad to discover that Trinity OBCZ had folded, but now this book and it's three companions is safe in my hands. Or is it?
I have a cunning plan..............

After our failed attempt to release this book at Trinity OBCZ, I had planned to take it away with me at Christmas, but I forgot to put it in the car!

I hope to pass it on to a Bookcrossing friend later this week or release it at an OBCZ.
